National parties get 25 hrs each for campaigning on DD, AIR

The Election Commission on Friday announced 25 hours each of free telecast and broadcast time for the six national parties on Doordarshan and AIR for campaigning.


For the 47 state parties, the poll panel has allocated 30 hours each of broadcast and telecast time on DD and AIR.

It said a total of 7 hours and 50 minutes of telecast time will be available through the regional satellite services channels available to viewers across India.

But the facility is not available to registered unrecognised parties and Independents.

The EC warned that criticism of other countries, attack on religions or communities, defamatory or obscene matter, anything amounting to contempt of court, casting aspersions on the President or the judiciary will not be allowed during telecast and broadcast of such programmes.

The political parties will have to submit the transcript to Prasar Bharti in advance. After approval, the transcripts will have to be recorded at private studios and the cost for the same will have to be borne by political parties.

The telecast and broadcast will span between the last date of nominations for the first phase and two days prior to the last dates of poll anywhere in India.

The EC order said, of the ten hours of telecast and broadcast time reserved for national parties over national channel or hookup of DD or AIR, 45 minutes will be alloted to each of the six parties.

The remaining 5-and-a-half hours of telecast and broadcast time will be further divided among the six national parties according to the percentage of votes polled by them during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

In addition, each national party will be given one-and-a-half times of the total time alloted to it for telecast or broadcast on the regional DD Kendra or regional AIR station.

Of the total time alloted to each national party, each of the parties will have the option to utilise the time allocated to it on any of the regional DD kendra or AIR stations at state capitals.

While Congress has been given 285 minutes each for telecast and broadcast on regional centres of DD and AIR, BJP has been given 210 minutes for the same.

The BSP has been given 115 minutes each, the CPI (M) has been given 110 minutes. CPI and NCP have been given 80 minutes each.

Besides, for national channel/hook-up of DD and AIR, Congress has been granted 190 minutes and BJP 140 minutes, BSP has been given 75 minutes each on DD and AIR, the CPI (M) 70 minutes, CPI 50 minutes and NCP 55 minutes.

The concept of free time for parties on state-owned TV and radio was introduced by EC in February, 1998.

In this the recent Interview he had with Mr.Praveen Kumar is really wonderful and mind blowing to all. Off course with out any partiality he covers and arrange to operate that Program in a best possible manner. as a Indian he does work from his seat as a Truthful Human Birth on earth in our time. This must be well appreciated in time by all of us  in Public is my view.
